#AmaConSentido Campaign Addresses Gender-based Violence in Youth
Thursday, April 20th, 2017
The Ama Con Sentido (Love with Meaning) Campaign, an initiative of Coordinadora Paz para la Mujeres (Peace Coordinator for Women), seeks to raise awareness about healthy dating relationships among youth and young adults to prevent gender-based violence. The campaign addresses issues from the perspective of gender and human rights, and uses popular educational techniques, such as theater and participatory dialogue. Among the objectives is providing strategies to encourage young people to examine their own abilities so they can set boundaries, be assertive in communicating their needs to handle situations or violent dynamics in their romantic relationships, and train them with peer education and mentoring skills so they can foster relationships that are free from violence among their peers.
The workshops for youth and service providers teach about differences in gender identity, sexual orientation and biological sex; differential socialization; rape culture; masculinity; and the myths of romantic love. The campaign has developed educational materials such as infographics, videos, postcards and pamphlets, and more.
